In Portugal, the cult of the nativity scene appeared between the 17th and 18th centuries, with several renowned sculptors who, since then, have designed figures for the staging of the Nativity. Portuguese cribs have a great iconographic and ethnographic value, for the particularity of including popular figures such as miller, laundress or pastor.
