The original Church of Our Lady of Assumption was built in the 16^th century. After the 1755 earthquake, it was rebuilt and reopened in 1758, hosting also the parish of the Resurrection of Christ. Highlights of the interior include the 18^th century tile pannels depicting episodes of the life of the Virgin Mary; the Assumption of Our Lady painted in the dome by José Malhoa in 1900, by order of Queen Amélia; the 17^th century tile frontal of the side altar dedicated to Saint Michael; and a 18^th century Last Supper painted by Pedro Alexandrino in the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament.
