Located in the Serpa Pinto Street (formerly Street of the Holy Spirit), the Church of Mercy is perhaps the most beautiful and valuable of the churches of the city. Is part of a set of buildings of the Holy House of Mercy of Torres Vedras, which ran the Mercy Hospital (former Hospital of the Holy Spirit) and the seat of that institution. It was built between 1681 and 1710, to replace the church of the former Hospital of the Holy Spirit, which was contiguous to him, and it was already very ruined.

Before the church a small churchyard enclosed by railings, where, until 1849, when it created a cemetery north of the church, were buried the poor patients who passed away in the old hospital.

The portal is surmounted by two concheadas fins, with the royal arms. The door is dated 1718 and the umbrella wind is 1853.
