The story of Jesus’ birth will be told at a concert featuring the Maia Opera Studio Choir and Orchestral Ensemble. Experiencing what Christmas has been like over time is the purpose of this show, which includes pieces by renowned composers, such as Mendelssohn and Handel, as well as new arrangements. The aim is to take the audience on a journey to Bethlehem, guided not by a star, but by music. The setting for this journey is Santo Eugénio Church, consecrated in tribute to the Christian name of Pope Pius XII, Eugenio Pacelli of Rome, also known as the “first Pope of Fátima”. Opened in the 1950s, the church was described in newspapers of the day as “a temple of sombre and elegant lines”, featuring a bronze image of Saint Eugenio on the altar- a gift from the Vatican.
